Hangman
Everybody knows this game and most love it. It's quick, easy and never fails. If you're stuck at the end of a class, play this.
Angels, Bombs and Guns
This game is a big hit every time and is easy to change to suit most levels.
It is basically a game involving a 5x5 grid and only the teacher knows where the Angels, Bombs and Guns are placed on the grid. Sentences are made up by various combinations of grid references which reveal an Angel, Bomb or Gun.
Draw a 5x5 grid on a piece of paper and allocate 9 Angels, 8 Bombs and 8 Guns randomly in the grid. This is your secret.
Write a sentence on the board leaving 2 gaps (to be filled by words or phases on the grid)
e.g. On ____A___ it is _____B_____.
Where A could represent a day of the week, and B could represent weather types.
On Monday is is raining, On Wednesday it is sunny.
The Teacher then check the references and puts an A, B or G in the square and says, "It's an angel", It's a bomb" or "It's a gun!"
Each team has 3 lives (hearts) on the board. As the sentences are read out, one of three things could happen, as follows;
Angel - Gain a life (heart)
Bomb - Lose a life.
G - Take one life off another team (always fun).
The winning team will knock out the other teams or win on the highest number of hearts.
Give it a try. Everyone loves this game.
Back to the Board
Very popular game. 2 teams. One student from each team sits on a chair facing the class with their back to the blackboard. You then write a word on the board. The 2 teams must try to explain what the word is.
Two rules;
1. They cannot use their native language (1 point penalty)
2. They cannot say the word.
Very good game.
Reverse Back to the Board
Like Back to the Board but this time one student must try to explain a word to the 2 teams. Write up some cards with words on them to secretly show the student.
Touch the Word
Great for young ones.
Write some recent vocab on the board and go through it with them.
Two teams. One student from each team goes to the far side of the room and get ready to run..
You say,"1,2,3......yellow!" They must run to the board and touch the correct word for a point.
Blockbusters
Based on the 80's UK TV show. This game is intelligent and great for good students.
